Sustainability

We are building Strive Nutrition with sustainability as our foundation because of our over-riding concerns about climate change and its devastating effects.

More Sustainable Protein
Did you know that methane (CH4) accounts for 10% of all greenhouse gases? And factory farming accounts for 37% of methane emissions, which has more than 20 times the global warming potential of CO2. The US Department of Agriculture estimates that confined farm animals generate more than 450 million tons of manure annually, 3 times more raw waste than generated by all Americans.

In the early days of Strive, we looked at all sources of protein – animal protein, pea protein and other plants, but none of them felt right – nutritionally and for the future of this planet. Then we discovered Perfect Day protein which delivers all the positive taste and nutritional benefits of dairy protein but without the harmful effects of big corporate animal agriculture. Compared to conventional dairy, the Perfect Day protein production process uses 99% less water, emits 97% fewer greenhouse gases, and uses up to 60% less non-renewable energy.

More Sustainable Packaging
Plastic packaging is the elephant in the room for the beverage industry. Plastic packaging has become an essential component because it’s durable, light weight and cheap. But despite the numerous benefits, plastics originate as fossil fuels and emit greenhouse gases from cradle to grave. Based on projections from the World Energy Council, if plastics production and incineration increase as expected, greenhouse gas emissions will increase to 49 million metric tons by 2030 and 91 million metric tons by 2050.

At Strive, we’re committed to source reduction in our packaging. We are packaging Strive initially in Tetra Pak containers. Tetra Pak is made from 67 percent renewable materials and only 33 percent fossil-based plastic, and it’s 100 percent recyclable. And we use an aseptic process that allows us to store and distribute our beverages without refrigeration, saving energy and reducing emissions.

But this is only the beginning. Our goal is to progress to a circular system of 100% recycled packaging materials. And depending on the technologies in development we aim to have fully compostable plant-based packaging for all our products in the very near future.

Our Journey Has Just Begun.
We know that we can’t solve our problems with one broad brush. It will take all of us working together, in big and small ways, to make the impact necessary to ensure a bright future for generations to come. Our mission to make things simpler, healthier, and better for everyone and the planet. Will you join us?
